21st June 2018
Jai says... The grown ups never cease to amaze me. I was just going to bed last night and I heard people arriving for Nanna Carol and Aunty Jenny's birthday do. They still made me go to bed though but managed to kiss Pa and GG night-night. Nanna had already let me blow their candles out so they didn't have everything their own way. Then I went to sleep and missed everyone else. Have a look at this picture - it's Mummy and Aunty Jenny. GG reckons that the new cousin I'm getting in August and the baby that's coming to our house is in the picture, but you know GG... she tends to get things wrong. I can't see them, can you? |
20th June 2018
Jai says... It never stops! My Mummy is always dreaming up ideas for something else I have to do, quite unbelievable stuff it is too. Today she made me have a big boy hair cut. Why? It still fitted in my favourite hat. After a bit of jumping about I managed to sit down - it was a big chair and the barber lady had some pointy scissors - I had to sit very very still which is quite boring. I was glad when it was all over I can tell you, and I haven't yet decided whether I'm happy with the result. What's Nanna, Nani and GG going to say when they see my new look? I think they've made me have my hair cut so that I'm ready to be a big brother. |
When we were at Nanna and Grandad's house the other day we all went round the corner for our lunch. Dad said it's called pub grub. They didn't have any small forks like my one at home so I had to manage with a grown up one. They give you quite of lot of dinner too so Dad had to help me out.

15th June 2018
Jai says... Hello... this is me at bedtime last night. Sorry I didn't smile much but it was time for my sleepy blanky and you know how it is when it's blanky time and you can't quite be bothered. Mummy wanted to show everyone my new big boy summer pyjamas with a pocket. I heard her telling GG that the hospital says our new baby might be ready by the 23rd. It's been on order for ages and we don't know yet if it will be a brother or a sister. Mummy has been a bit unwell lately with diabetes so they've said she can buy it a bit earlier, just to cheer her up. I'm sure I could eat it more quickly with my fingers but Mummy says I have to do it properly. Everyone has noticed that I'm left-handed just like ChaCha (Uncle Jon).

4th June 2018
Jai says... Have you ever heard of a stretched out birthday? That's what my 2nd birthday has been. As you know, my family is a tiny bit crazy. They all came to my house on the 23rd May and they all came again yesterday plus lots of Mum's and Dad's friends and, surprise surprise, Jon and Zara flew in from Rotterdam. We did birthday stuff all over again. And there were more presents and more cards but today we had cake and candles as well. My new cousin Yuvraj (he's 8 months old now) came all the way from Leicester and he brought his Mum and Dad too. Big Jay and Lesley and Auntie Kek and Emma, and GG and Pa and Nani and Nona, Nanna and Grandad, Ian and Jenny, all my aunties... absolutely everyone. Top picture: Nanna made this big sponge cake with pictures of buses and tractors. This is the bit where I had to blow the candles out. Sorry the cake looks a bit untidy, I blame the warm weather but I also enjoyed rearranging the pictures and I pinched a few bits of icing and one or two of the chocolate buttons that spelled out my name. Bottom Picture: when you've blown the candles out, and done the happy birthday song, everyone shouts hooray and we clap. Well, this is the clapping part just before you eat the cake. If you get a messy slice please excuse my fingers. |
By the way, I kept my old sunhat on so
that they didn't make me wear one of the pointy party ones with elastic under your chin. |
26th May 2018
Jai says... Hello again, more news about my birthday. I had a paddling pool from Big Jay and Lesley. I also had a slide and a bin lorry. Bin lorries are my favourite thing so I let it have a ride on my new slide. I love to play in my garden. Would you believe it - rain, rain, rain all day yesterday and no one would unlock the door for me to go out. I was so fed up Nanna took me for a ride to play with GG and Pa - it was still raining in their garden and they wouldn't let me go outside either. Sometimes life is so unfair. |
23rd May 2018
Jai says... Happy birthday to me... I'm 2 years old today! I've had lots of cards and parcels. Our garden has been made tidy and I've had some outside toys for my birthday. Everyone came to visit and GG helped me play with my new water thing that Nanna and Grandad bought. Big Jay put all the pieces together, he had to hurry because I just couldn't wait to play with it. It has sand in one side and water in the other and there's lots to do with the tools and things that came with it. I kept getting wet because I splashed too hard and had to have dry clothes (three times). I also have a new slide. You climb up two steps and sit down on the top, then you whiz down and go "bump" at the bottom. Mummy said we must wear our sunhats to play outside - so we did. I'm having a party, but not today - it will be in a few days time at a weekend so that everyone can come. |
12th May 2018
Jai says... Do you remember yesterday when I went on the bus and slept at Nanna's house? Well I was pretty tired last night and this morning I didn't wake up until 7 o'clock. It was strange waking up somewhere else so I got in bed with Grandad for a little while. I've done another "first" this morning - I had a shower in Nanna and Grandad's bathroom - the water comes down like rain instead of me sitting in the bath like I do at home - Nanna fussed about making sure I didn't slip. I washed my tummy and Nanna helped the rest of me get washed. Great fun though... I wonder what Mummy will think of it. Then I had a big boy's breakfast of sausage and beans - Grandad said it will make me grow. I've fed the birds in the garden and then we all went for a walk before I go home again. I've had a great time, just like being on holiday. When GG and I did a video call on WhatsApp I told her all about it. When she heard about my bus ride she said she would get me a scrap book to stick my bus ticket in and we might put a picture of my bus in it too. Looks like we're going to be busy on Wednesdays when GG and Pa come to play. |
11th May 2018
Jai says... So sorry I haven't told you any news for a while, but I've had a poorly chest yet again. I'm better now except for a very runny nose but at last I'm allowed outside again. You'll never believe it: today I've had the most exciting day ever... Nanna and Grandad took me for my first ride on a real bus. Buses and tractors and dustbisn lorries are my most favourite thing. We rode all the way to the bus station and then we spent an hour looking at all the lovely vehicles. I'm having a sleepover today at Nanna and Grandad's because Grandad needs me to help with the gardening. |
12th April 2018
Jai says... Nanna and I went to see GG and Pa yesterday. We had a cup of tea, well Nanna did and I dipped my biscuit in her tea. I had my wellies on and luckily there was a nice puddle by GG's gate so... but I didn't get too wet. I haven't told you about my new bus. It's a red one with people. You can put the people on and off the bus - I call my bus people GG, Pa and Nani... she's my other grandma, my Mummy's Mummy. |
7th April 2018
Jai says... Hi everyone - I'm feeling better already. I DO NOT like my medicine. It so horrible it makes me cry and then when my mouth is open Mummy shoves a squirty thing in there and it's full of thick yellow goo. Before I know what's happened I've swallowed it. No good me moaning I guess - it's nearly all used up and I'm feeling much better. Dad took me to a fire station today. Everyone laughed when they saw my photo and said I was just like Pa. How cool is this? Great fun - maybe when I grow up I can be a real fireman like Pa was. |
4th April 2018
Jai says... I didn't get to eat any Easter chocolate because I was too poorly. I had a ride in an ambulance though and mummy stayed with me at the hospital. I was feeling really unwell in this picture and they put me in a special chair with breathing things and tubes and stuff. I went to sleep there too and then came home again in the morning. I think it's Mummy who is a bit tired now all the fuss is over. Oh, I forgot to mention, they gave me an Easter Egg to bring home with my new medicine. |
28th March 2018
Jai says... It's Wednesday again already. GG and Pa came to play as usual but today I'm feeling poorly. I'm all hot and have a cough, Nanna has been here all day and Mummy came home early to see if I'm OK. Trouble is she had to bring her laptop and things so she could carry on working at home so Nanna read me some stories. GG has made me an Easter tree - we've put it on the window sill, it has tiny chicks and bunnies and there's chocolate buttons in the little parcels. I don't feel like eating today - GG said that it's a Calpol day today and I can eat the chocolate when I feel better. We played for a little while and then I was so fed up with feeling poorly I sat on Nanna's lap to have a story. |
Nanna took me to playgroup this morning and we made an Easter card.
We had to dip things in paint and print on the paper. Then we glued some paper on as well. The lady said we needed it to make it eggy yellow for Easter. When we got home Nanna put it on the kitchen window sill for Mummy to see. |
21st March 2018
Jai says... GG and Pa came round to play this afternoon. I was very busy doing some cooking when they arrived, it's one of my favourite things to do at the moment. Nanna is here on Wednesdays and she lets me have some water in the bowl - I mix it round and round with my cooking tools. |
Pretty soon it was time for my tea - I was a tired by then. Nanna said "it's bath and bed for you little man."
|
17th March 2018
Jai says... Mummy told me it's supposed to be spring but now the snow has come back. She's made me wear my woolly hat and cosy gilet. I find there's loads to think about so now and then I take a moment to sort things out - I'm just thinking will Mummy let me go outside or will I have to stay in the warm? GG and Pa came to play last Wednesday afternoon. We were busy doing stuff in my toy kitchen. I mixed some ice cubes with some pasta shapes. GG and I stirred them round and round, then we put them in the saucepan to cook. When we stir them GG and I sing mix-mix, mix-mix. Some of them ended up on the floor and then the silly ice cubes melted so we had to wipe the floor. I tasted our cooking but GG said she wasn't very hungry and was going to give them a miss. Nani Chan has gone to India to visit relatives. She will stay with my other Great Grandma. Have a lovely time Nani Chan - safe journey. |
12th March 2018
Jai says... We've had a busy weekend - all Mummy's sisters and their families came to visit so they could do Mothers' Day with Nani Chan. Do you remember I told you about my new cousin - he's five months old now - this is Yuvraj and me with Auntie Anita reading our bedtime story. We're in my play tent - there wasn't much room for three and Auntie's feet wouldn't' fit inside. We're reading my Thomas the Tank Engine book - my other favourite is the one about the Tiger Who Came to Tea. This is the Mother's Day card I made at nursery. Do you like the big pink flower? Everyone said it is fab. |
7th March 2018
Jai says... After Nanna had collected me from nursery, GG and Pa came to play. It's Pa's birthday so I had a card ready for him. Big Jay and Lesley came too and we all had a jolly birthday get together. GG was busy catching up on all the new words I can say. Here's the list: Gate - Door - Key - Dip-Dip. The last one means I have a biscuit and I'd like to dip it in your cup of tea please. GG says dunking is not a very good idea - but I think it's a great idea and I'm not fussy about whose cup I dunk in. |
11th February 2018
Jai says... We're going to Luton today. We're invited to an 18th birthday party for one of Mummy's cousins. Daddy had a bit of a job getting me to stand still while he got me all togged up and ready to go in my Ralph Lauren shirt. Not sure who or what Ralph Lauren is but Mum and Dad seem to be impressed with the label (it was a present from their friend). GG made her usual comment about me being a trendy Dude. |
7th February 2018 Jai says... Here's a picture from a couple of weekends ago - I'm not sure who's garden it is, I think it may have been when we visited Uncle Ian and Auntie Jenny's new house. It was our first visit just before they moved in - we had a good nosey round and then went outside to try out the lawn. This is Nanna and Grandad and me playing on the grass - sometimes you just have to wag your finger at Grandad to let him know what's what. |
27th January 2018
Jai says... What do you do when your Mum's fastened you in your high chair, she's put your bib on ready for supper? You're waiting for her to put the tray thing on and bring your dish and spoon. All the toys have been put away. It's getting near bedtime and you're feeling a tad tired. At such times I find the best thing to do is seize the moment (carpe diem as GG would say) and take five. Bon appetit! |
20th January 2018
Jai says... I don't know what it is with the ladies: I mean... all my aunties, grannies, and great-gran GG. They're always hell bent on kissing me. I put up with it to a point because I like it when they come to play or read my picture books with me. I hope no one guesses what I really think of it all when they see this picture - do you think it gives the game away? If you're interested, this is my great auntie Kek (Karen) trying to eat me. |
10th January 2018
Jai says... I'm just back from Nursery - Nanna Carol came to collect me. I'm soooo tired when I've been to Nursery that I fall asleep in Nanna's car - she put me in my cot for a little while then when I woke up again GG, Pa and Big Jay came round to play. GG liked my calendar that I'd made at Nursery - she said it's the best calendar she's ever seen. No point in being modest, it is pretty fabulous but I did have a little bit of help. I liked choosing the pretty bits and pieces to stick on it. Here it is, I bet you wish you had one like it. |
9th January 2018
Jai says... Do you like my hoodie? It's grey stripes - Mummy's favourite colour is grey so I get to wear a lot of it. We've had another busy weekend - Sunday was a noisy day as my mad family came round for Daddy's birthday do. They had the cheek to put me upstairs for a nap but I kept hearing the doorbell ring when people arrived so I stood up in my cot and let them know I was missing all the fun. They took turns to play so I let them push my shopping trolley and pull my little wooden dog, I've named him Brucie. Lewis squeezed into my play tent, he didn't fit in very well but it made me laugh when he was all squashed up - I could see him through the tent window. When it was tea-time I helped Dad to blow out his cake candles. I've brought a picture of Brucie for you to see - he bobs up and down, wags his tail and prefers to walk behind me. |
1st January 2018
Jai says... HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone. Now what do you think of this little story? You remember we were at Nanna Carol's and Grandad's over Christmas - I found these little angels on their window sill. They made everyone laugh because Nanna and Grandad bought them in Rotterdam just because they thought they looked like me. I don't know what to think about that. Do they really look like me? I suppose we do have something in common in the eyebrow area. |
28th December 2017
Jai says... Well that's Christmas over then... you wouldn't believe how many presents I've had. After Santa came in the middle of the night to put things in my stocking all my crazy family brought parcels too. We all went to Nanna Carol's for Christmas lunch and what a noisy lot we were - all 16 of us. Here's just a few of us - Aunty Jenny is doing our 'selfie'. |
22nd December 2017
Jay says... You know all this Santa business, well I think my Mum is more excited about him than I am. She bought us a ticket to have breakfast with Santa at the garden centre. The sausage was nice but then when HE came round to see if all the kids were eating their breakfast he freaked me out. He was huge with a hairy face and a red coat. I didn't much like him. A bit later on he gave me a present so then I liked him just a little bit but I was pretty careful not to get too close and there was no way I was going to sit on his knee. |
17th December 2017
Jai says... Mummy says it's going to be Christmas soon. Maybe it is, but I think the shopping thing is getting out of hand. I seem to be spending a lot of time stuck in a trolley these days. Nanna Carol is in charge of this trip. We're at Sainsbury's, Perton, looking at carrots and things. Trouble is she's strapped me in and no matter how hard I try I just can't get out of this thing. I'm really bundled up today - big hat - big warm coat - and what do you think of my new welly boots. I'm all ready for snow and puddles now. I like the red bottoms, I think they're quite Christmassy. |
11th December 2017
Jai says... When I woke up on Saturday (9th) I couldn't believe my eyes - I couldn't wait to get outside for a closer look. It's the first time I've seen any of this stuff. Mummy says it's called snow. She said that I need some wellies and then I'll be able to play in it again. The shop didn't have my size wellies so I have to wait a bit longer. I've looked through the window and there's even more snow. Here I am, still in my PJs, I'm pretending it's sunny today. |
6th December 2017
Jai says... It's Wednesday, the day Nana Carol collects me from nursery. It's been a busy day because we had to make a snowman - a paper one, not a real one. We stuck on a carrot nose, eyes and then some sparkly stuff. GG and Pa and Big Jay called in to see me. We had a great game with Pa chasing me round and round. Then it was time for my supper - chicken casserole today. |
28th November 2017
Jai says... You know that moment when you wake up in a morning and you're still a bit sleepy and cosy in your jim-jams, so you climb on the sofa and stare at the telly not really taking things in, Well the perfect thing for such a time is cheese. These mornings when I wake up I say to Mummy, "cheeeeeeese," and she knows just what I mean. No crackers, no butter, just cheeeeeeese. |
27th November 2017 Jai says... I was up early yesterday and Mummy says my back teeth are growing now and that's why I was awake. Anyway seeing as I had lots of time before going out to lunch with my family I found my sun hat and put it on - it looks good with my pyjamas. Can you see my sleepy blanky? Daddy was chasing me to take it out of my mouth - I like my little blanky especially when I'm tired. Later on we all met up for lunch - Mummy put her lipstick on and everyone else was dressed up too. They put me in a high chair and I had lots of vegetables, with a slice of turkey. I thought the carrots were especially nice - everyone was pleased because veg is my favourite. |
10th November 2017
Jai says... Oh dear... I'm under the weather again. I haven't been to nursery this week and Mummy stayed home to look after me. I have a chest infection and the doctor has given me antibiotic medicine. Guess what! - I don't like it! Mummy tricks me into taking it and hides it in things I like to eat - I know because I heard her telling GG all about it. |
This is me all fed up and feeling like a wet lettuce - Mum and Dad are tired because I kept them awake in the middle of the night. GG, Pa and Nana Carol came to visit on Wednesday and Grandad Haz came on Tuesday. They all wanted to play with me but I was tired too. I tried to get GG to take me outside but she said it was too cold and wet for poorly boys to go out.
|
Guess what everyone... I've invented a great new game. You have to do it when your Mum isn't looking. It's great fun and it's called "empty the washing machine". Mummy said she'd rather I didn't play this game again. Now I'll have to think of something else to do. |
26th October 2017
Jai says... Sorry I've not had time to tell you stuff over the last few days - we seem to be dashing about quite a bit lately. We've been to Leicester a couple of times to see the new baby and there's been things to do at Nursery and my Playgroup. It's all because of Halloween. Mummy said I had to wear my new spooky suit and all the other kids had odd clothes on too. Then we had to do whatever it is you do at these pumpkin events. |
Here's a picture of my Great Gran (old GG) she loves to play with me. She's wearing her new birthday necklace that Pa bought, I bet you a pound to a penny she'll take it off before I can grab it to find out what it tastes like - she doesn't like me chewing her beads.
|
12th October 2017
Jai says... Aunty Sunita has a new baby and he's going to be my cousin. I don't know his name yet - I expect they'll take me to see him soon. Nanny Carol and I went to see GG and Pa yesterday. GG said that my nose was running - but it was me that was running every time she came near me with a tissue. I do have a sniffle and a cough but they drive me mad with their obsessive nose wiping. It was raining too and GG wouldn't take me in the garden. The weather is a bit better today so here I am chasing the leaves in my new jacket. GG says it's a huntin' shootin' and fishin' jacket - I think it's just a jacket - she's full of daft ideas. If you look very closely you can see some of my new teeth. |
5th October 2017
Jai says... Happy birthday Mummy: Daddy and I are taking her out for lunch. I thought my joggers and cool dude shoes would do for the occasion. I did a quick pose for the camera before we set off - what do you think? I'm getting good at walking now and I try to climb the stairs. They've only gone and put a gate at the top and the bottom of them - I'm still working on how to unfasten it. There was a bit of a flap the other day because there was water all over the kitchen floor. I love getting in the cupboard under the sink just to have a look. Mummy has begun hiding things or putting them where I can't reach. There were no washing products to play with so I pulled the thing that hangs down under the sink. Suddenly there was water coming out, but I didn't tell anyone that I knew how it got there, I let them sort that for themselves. (Keep it under your hat). When our giant fridge arrived I heard them say, "he'll never be able to open that big door." Well I did, and I dragged the cartons of milk round the kitchen, so there! Now they've moved the milk higher up where I can't reach it and Mummy thinks she's tricking me by leaving an empty carton at the bottom for me reach - but they can't fool me... |
23rd September 2017
Jai says... This morning Mummy announced that we have a Costa date. I didn't know what that meant - when we told GG about it she didn't know either. But Mummy took a picture and now we understand. It's when you sit in a high chair with your sippy cup and something to nibble while all the Mummies talk, talk, talk. They talk so much they need a cup of coffee. That's a Costa date. |
14th September 2017
Jai says... I've had a ball today... thousands of them... Uncle Jon is staying with us for a couple of days before he goes back to Rotterdam to catch up with Zara. He took me to the Ball Pool Park - bit of a mouthful to say isn't it? It's a great place though and Mummy came too. Then after lunch we went to see GG and Pa - they were tickled pink to see me walking without holding onto anything. GG took me for a walk round the garden because I love to be outside. |
11th September 2017
Jai says... GG says I've grown again. I'm at Nani Chan's in this picture. The other day Mummy asked my teacher at Nursery how I was getting on. She told Mummy that I'm like a firework and they certainly know when I'm around. Not sure what she means by that. I'm still trying to walk by myself and I can do it for a little bit - then I get all excited and it's wallop! GG still keeps telling me I'm trying to run before I can walk. I'm at Nani Chan's house here riding on something else they've bought for me. |
28th August 2017 Jai says... Dad and I watched a bit of telly yesterday - it was the Arsenal v Liverpool match. Have to tell you, Dad's not at all happy even though I agreed to wear my Arsenal shirt - he said we have to put them on to watch the game. Can you see I have my name on mine. Dad's actually having a bit of a sulk right now and I know all the other Mitchell men will be having a sulk too. Arsenal lost 4-0 and Dad seems to think that's not very good. Aunty Lesley's brother will be happy though - he's a Liverpool bloke. They do make a fuss about football don't they? |
20th August 2017
Jai says... Our extension is finished and I have a lovely big floor with lots of play space. I can run by myself with my walker toy. Daft old GG calls it my Zimmer but it's really a big boy walker thing with lots of stuff on it to play with. Mummy and Dad went out this afternoon so Nanna Carol came to stay with me. GG and Pa called in too so we all took the opportunity to run round and round on the new floor, great fun Then I showed them how I can open and close all the new cupboard doors. I can get all round the kitchen holding onto the doors. After I'd eaten my supper Nanna Carol took me to the park for some fresh air. When we got home it was bath-time and bed-time and I was feeling quite tired... we all had a very nice afternoon. Oops! almost forgot to tell you... I have two new teeth at the top to match my bottom ones. |
16th August 2017
Jai says... Here's Dad and me just having a moment, I can't think why I was looking so cross. Would you agree that my Dad likes to pose for the camera more than I do? It looks like he's gelled his hair and everything. At least I got to wear my Arsenal shirt - I don't know much about Arsenal but it pleases my Dad, Uncle Ian, Uncle Jon, and Grandad Gary to see me wearing it. Jay and Pa would prefer a Wolves one, but you can't please all of the people all of the time can you? I wonder if you can have a shirt with Teletubbies on and do little kids ever get to choose their own shirts? |
5th August 2017 Jai says... Yesterday was a bit of an occasion at activity group - it's where Mummy and I go on Fridays. It was my graduation day. That means I'm leaving the Baby Sensory class and moving up into the one year olds' class. I had to wear a mortar board thing and a gown - then teacher put me in the middle while they all sang songs to me and clapped. GG says she had a bit of a fit when she saw this picture - she thought I'd banged my head and had a bandage on it. I think I've mentioned to you before, she's a bit old and daft. |
4th August 2017
Jai says... Hi everyone... Nanna Carol took me to GG & Pa's house on Wednesday. We had some good games but GG gets a bit worried when I splash in the bird bath. Then she drags me inside to get washed - such a fuss. Yesterday Mummy took me to the park and I was able to do some big boy stuff on the slide. |
22nd July 2017 Jai says... What is it with ladies and shopping? There must be better things to do on a Saturday morning than being trundled in a Sainsbury's trolley. I cannot believe anyone would shove me in this wire thing to shake, rattle and roll round a boring old store. And anyway, the interesting stuff gets chucked behind me where I can't get at it. I am NOT amused. |
18th July 2017 Jai says... Yay! I've been on a little holiday to Centre Parks. It's lovely there, lots of things to do outside. It's a happy sort of place, lots of picnics and stuff like that. I hope we go again one day. You can see that Mummy makes me wear my pinny to eat even when we're on holiday. What I really liked about this place is the ducks - and now I can say 'duck' - what do you think about that then? I can also say 'Kek' - it made them all laugh when I said that. Kek is my great aunty - Granddad Gary's sister. She's been Kek since Uncle Ian was as small as me. She's supposed to be Karen but Uncle Ian called her Kek and she's been stuck with it for 30+ years. What a long time - even old GG and Pa call her Kek. |
1st July 2017
Jai says... Look what I have now - they've bought me an armchair. It's round the corner at Nani Chan's house. There's lots of things to press and make funny noises. I suspect they're hoping I'll sit still for a bit in this - but I'm not so sure I will. I think they're all fed up with their achey backs and having to hold me while I walk - but it's good exercise for them isn't it? GG wanted to know where are my pipe and slippers. I don't know what she means - silly old GG. |
29th June 2017
Jai says... Oh dear - I have a cough again. Mummy says it's because of all the building dust in our house. The workmen are still here, knocking down walls, banging, sawing, plastering. Daddy's cross because the man didn't take away the rubble, and Mummy's fed up with all the mess. Now that I have a another cough they said I kept them awake last night. The best bit was being allowed into their big bed when it was nearly time to get up and Daddy and I managed to have an extra nap. I supposed Mummy stayed awake so she could take our picture. Any way, I felt a bit better by the morning and Nanny Carol came to play while Mummy went off to organise kitchen stuff. |
Nanny and I went to Sainsbury's. She has a new car seat just for me. and couldn't wait to stuff me into it. It's a nice one because it's quite high and I can see through the window. I've had a little try but can't work out how to unfasten the belt that holds me in. Oh well...maybe I'll work that one out another day. We had a lovely time and guess what. We bought a Po in Sainsbury's - a Teletubby Po - I just love those Teletubbies. This is Po and me in our new Nanny Carol car seat. We also popped in to see GG and Pa - they liked Po too so we all did Teletubby talk. GG is well versed in the language - I didn't have the heart to explain to her that it's all pretend and not real words.
We're going round to Nani's later - Mummy says we're having our tea there so that we won't be eating dust. She lives just round he corner from us. I've been thinking about this extension thing to our house - all the dust and noise and everything. My folks think we need a bigger house now that I'm here. But I don't take up much room do I? I'm not sure whether I should mention it to them... Maybe not, diplomacy helps keep the peace. |
17th June 2017
Jai says... My two new teeth are growing fast and this week I've been to my new school (nursery) to see if I like it. And yes, I do like it. I didn't cry once and I ate my lunch there and had a little nap with my special blanky. When I woke up we all played together with the teacher. I shall be going there three days a week when Mummy goes back to work next month and Nanny Carol and Nani will look after me on the other two days. I expect old GG will be popping in too just see what I'm up to. GG and Pa came round this morning. They said I'm giving everyone back ache because I like to be standing up all the time. I need to hang on to someone's fingers because I'm a bit wobbly but I love to keep trying to do it. GG says I'm trying to run before I can walk, and it's no wonder everyone is getting a bit of back trouble. Here I am on my birthday fire engine - it makes all sorts of noises when I press the buttons. After lunch Mummy and Nanny are taking me for some more injections - it has to be done. Trouble is, it's Mummy who gets in a tiz about it then when we get there it's me who ends up having the injection. I just don't get it! |
I've found an exciting programme on the telly - Mummy lets me watch it because it's really interesting. I was quite surprised when GG came and she knew all the names of the people in my programme. Pretty cool I guess seeing as she's so old. She knew all about them - left to right you see La La, Dipsy, Po, and Tinky Winky.

27th May 2017
Jai says... You wouldn't believe what a busy week I've had. Zoo, picnic, parcels, and today is my party day. Mummy is in a flap again, rushing around and sorting things out, and she's on the phone every five minutes. Everyone is coming, all my friends from Baby Group, I expect their Mums will come too. GG will bring Pa and some of their friends. Nani and Grandad Haz will be there and Nanny Carol and Grandad, millions of aunties and Jay and Lesley, Ian and Jenny, and loads more. I shall wear my face out smiling for everyone. I wonder: why do adults always insist on making a baby smile? Oh well... I'll work it out one of these days, especially now I'm one year old... there's such a lot to think about. |
23rd May 2017
Jai says... Guess what! It's my birthday today. I think birthdays are OK - I've not had one before. When I got up this morning I found some presents and I was allowed to eat chocolate for the first time ever. Mummy doesn't like me having too much of it but she didn't mind today. And.... Daddy stayed home to take us to the zoo. How cool is that? Look at my new car - I've had a little go and it's quite fast. Below is my chocolate face - they made me have a wash and a clean jumper before we went out. I'm having a party on Saturday and everyone is coming so there'll probably be lots more birthday pictures. I'm afraid my people are picture mad. On the right you'll see my zoo visiting face. It was absolutely fascinating... I liked the monkeys and penguins best of all. Mummy laughed because when I saw the penguins I just had to do clap hands because they flapped about so much. |
17th May 2017
Jai says... Hi everyone - I'm full of beans today - I've been to the gym for a bit of a work out. Look at my gym kit - not sure about the head band thing though! GG thought I was sitting on damp grass but I think it's a nice dry rug. |
Do you like my new trainers?
They played music and we all had to do things . I waved my arms about and practised clapping - it seemed enough to keep the grown ups happy and Mummy said I was a good boy. |
15th May 2017
Jai says... Such a busy day today... I'm lunching with a friend. We invited our Mums along too just to keep the peace... you know how it is... but they're happy chatting in the corner. |
My Dad has taken the strange picture on the left. It looks like an advert for laundry. He said it's my old jim-jams, the one on the left is what I wore when I was new and the one on the right is what I wear now. He says it's proof that I've been eating my greens. What is it with grown ups and greens? |
Here's my smiley face when we were doing pat-a-cake.
Sorry about the bit of dribble, my teeth are coming through and driving me mad. |
This is my special face that I do for GG - it's to stop her kissing and squeezing me too much. I try to scare her off a bit with my "don't mess with me" look.
|
I was glad when they had a cup of coffee with Mummy so I could get on with my morning playtime.
|
19th April 2017
Jai says... I'm in sunny Spain this week. I've brought lots of people with me: Mummy, Daddy, Nanny Carol, Grandad Gary, Uncle Ian, Auntie Jenny, and then oh what a surprise, Jon and Zara arrived all the way from New Zealand. Everybody cried and then everybody laughed, what a to do. They took me down to the beach and tried to put my toes in the sea. That's when I cried. It was too noisy, much too splashy, and it kept running after me so I decided I'd rather sit on the big blanket and play with the sand. Mummy said it's best I stay in the shade so Grandad and I had lots of fun just digging. Mummy and I even had a nap on the beach under the shady thing. |
Oops! It almost slipped my mind, I'm happy to tell you that at last I've got the hang of saying "Momma". It's hard work keeping both parents happy. It's a bit of a worry really, I've so many names to practise saying.
|
9th April 2017
Jai says... Hooray! Its picnic time. We had a lovely picnic yesterday in the Quarry at Shrewsbury near where Nanna Carol and Grandad live. Here's my picture doing picnic things. I had to promise to eat my sandwich before they would let me get at the strawberries, I kept my eye on them though. It was very warm in the sunshine so I wore my new sun hat and short trousers. Mummy got them for me to take to Spain next week. I have my own passport too - everyone has to have their own these days, I know all about baby passports because I heard the grownups talking. I wonder if I'll get my own wheelie thing to carry my hat and some toys. |
3rd April 2017
Jai says... What do you think of this picture? Let me introduce you to my favourite Aunties? They've been showing me how to pose for the camera. This is Sunita and Anita, my Mummy's sisters. A chap can never have too many pretty girls to sit on the sofa with. I wonder when I'll be getting some nice white teeth like them. |
5th April 2017
Jai says... Every so often I find there comes a day when you just have to take five. Commandeer the sofa, put your feet up, watch a bit of telly... know what I mean? GG says I have 'attitude' - but what does she know? |
12th March 2017
Jay says... I don't know... Dad and Mummy are so busy sorting out our kitchen they've left me with Nanna Carol and Grandad today. They've gone to look at cupboards and things. What a flipping fuss. I'm quite pleased I don't have to go and look at cupboards. It's no wonder I'm forever bemused, if not a little curious, when it comes to working out what the grown ups are doing. At least I'll get to have some good games with Nanny and Grandad - they're more interested in playing with me than looking at boring cupboards. Do you think my grey stripey jim-jams go rather well with Nanna's landing carpet? I'm sitting by the bathroom door - Nanna had to nip in there for a moment but she left the door open so we could see each other (Hmph! Don't even ask!). Nanna sent this picture to GG's phone - she said GG laughed her socks off because she thinks I always look like I'm asking a question. Anyone would ask questions if they saw Nanna Carol in the bathroom. Oh, I nearly forgot to tell you - I can sit up in my pram now - I love looking at everything and everybody. |
8th March 2017
Jai says... On Saturday Daddy took me to Pa and GG's house - it was a birthday "do" for Grandad Gary, Pa, Lesley and all the other people who've had birthdays recently. I didn't feel well so I cried a bit just to let them know - I had a little nap on GG and Pa's big bed and then Daddy took me home. Next day I saw our Doctor, he said I needed to go to the hospital because I still felt quite poorly. I'm back home now - not 100% so GG rang me up to sing the Pat-a-Cake song we like - I listened to her on the phone and had a little sing. I went off to sleep at last and I feel a bit better this morning and Mummy said "good boy" because I ate my breakfast. Do you like my big breakfast bib? Mummy makes me wear it because she says she finds all sorts hiding in my neck at bath time. I wonder why she worries about a bit of clingy dinner. |
20th February 2017
Jai says... GG says will I send a couple of waves to people who pop in here to see how I'm getting on. I've found some nice waves (left) and here they are for Audrey in Hampshire and Uncle Jonathan in New Zealand. Hi guys, here's waving to you - I'm fine thank you, hope you are too. xxx P.S. I didn't know whether to say Auntie Audrey - GG said to try Granny Audrey - why should Audrey get away with "Auntie" when she's called "Great Granny". |
12th February 2017
Jay says: I've been for a sleepover with Nana Carol and Grandad. It was great fun because Grandad likes to play so I do my best to amuse him. I wore my winter hats this weekend - GG says I have more hats than Barbara Cartland. When she saw me wearing these ones she called me Little Biggles. That's Grandad and me on the left and on the right Daddy and I are doing things at Baby Playgroup. I'm so busy these days. |
22nd January 2017
Jai says: GG & Pa popped in yesterday. They came to see how I'm getting on and to have a cup of tea. They loved my new high chair. It's a bit fancy - I go in it at meal times so I'm sitting up in the air - mummy has a spoon and then she gives me another one to hold because I like to grab the one she has with the dinner on. It all ends up a bit of a messy business. Anyway, the big news is... I'm growing a tooth but it's taking ages. They keep poking about in my mouth to see how it's getting on. GG said I've grown and look different from when she saw me a couple of weeks ago. |
1st January 2017
GG says: Little Jai is a bit unwell right now - dicky tummy, sore gums, prone to dribbling, and chewing everything in sight. He's going to have a quiet week to get back on form. I know you'll all join me in wishing little man a Happy New Year. Bring on the Calpol. Here's a Christmas picture with Auntie Jenny. |
26th December 2016
Jai says: The last few days have been crazy - we've rushed about shopping and visiting people, I've been to different houses with everyone picking me up, I thought I was going to be eaten. Then there was the day everyone brought presents while Mummy stressed about the dinner. There were boxes and paper everywhere and crackers that made me jump. While that was all going on they made me wear a silly hat, a paper one without a bit of warmth in it. Now and again I made sure to let them know I was not impressed with the hullabaloo. And as for the fat chap dressed in red - who's he? Er... I mean the one on your right of course. |
This one is me with old GG - she's a bit over the top with the kisses and stuff but she's good at singing Pat-a-Cake, Pat-a-Cake, Baker's Man... you know the one. I like the part where she says "...throw it in the oven for Babba and me..." when we get to that bit we have to put our arms up. I'm getting the hang of it... |
10th December 2016 Jai says: I think there's something exciting going on but I'm not sure what it's all about. We went to Leicester yesterday to visit my Auntie Anita (she's Mummy's sister). She'd been busy putting a tree in the sitting room - and then she spent ages fussing about with baubles and things. OK so that was quite interesting and it looks pretty. Then... you're never going to believe this... they wanted me to sit on the top. Here's Daddy doing a test run to see if I can manage it. Nanny Carol said I'm her angel on top of the tree and old GG started singing a daft song that she remembers from years ago... "Every little boy would like to be... the fairy on the Christmas tree..." It's enough to make a chap give up all hope of good sense and propriety having precedence in this family. Thankfully I didn't have to stay up there. And no, I didn't smile for the camera- would you with the pointy bit of a prickly Christmas tree so near to your nappy? |
|
21st November 2016
Jai says: I went out for lunch yesterday. Well my mad family had lunch - they made me eat mine at home before we left. My Pa (that's great grandpa Bern) had better watch out next year when we go to Weston Park, I'll be a big boy by then and I'll have my lunch with everyone else thank you - so "stick that on your bill Pa" is what I say. Aunty Jenny walked me in my pram so I'd have a nap and they all ate their lunch in peace. Now next year will be another story... I promise. 19th November 2016
Jai says: Mummy took me to a birthday party today. Someone she knows was having a 1st birthday. I've decided I don't like parties - you have to sit on your Mummy's lap all afternoon while the ladies just talk talk talk. Mummy said I'm a party pooper. And I'll tell you another thing... look at how she's laughing. What is she laughing at? - noisy kids, silly hats, cake and candles - I just wanna go home! |
18th November 2016
Jai says: Mummy seems to have developed a bit of a thing about eating my greens. She tells everyone how much I like greens - BUT, I find I can get rid of half of them on my jumper, that way we're both happy. I hope she doesn't get round to sprouts. Big uncle Jay told me about sprouts. When he was a little boy his sister used to eat them for him when his Mum wasn't looking. His sister is my Nana Carol and his Mum is old GG. It's all very complicated working out families, trouble is there are so many people in our family all telling me stuff - too much to take in if you ask me. |
16th November 2016
Jai says: Hello everyone - we haven't chatted for ages. I thought I'd pop in and have a word, well a little moan really about my mad family. They never let me have a moment's privacy, even when I'm in the bath they come to watch and out comes a camera. I wonder what they'd say if I sent someone to take pictures of them in the bath. They get all silly you know, Nana Carol says I'm her little Water Baby and GG calls me Babba Bubbles. Mummy gets a bit over the top too and sends these pictures of me in my birthday suit to everyone she can think of - hmm! birthday suit and I haven't even had a birthday yet. Mind you - I do love splashing in my bath. |
19th October 2016
Jai says: I've been quietly getting on with things these past two weeks and doing a bit of growing. Mummy is always taking pictures - here's today's offering. Nana Carol says I look pleased with myself in this picture - and why not? I've heard all the ladies say how beautiful I am! GG reckons I'm quite a dude. |
5th October 2016
Jai says: Here's Daddy and me - don't know what happened to his head but I recognise the watch. We're saying happy 30th birthday to Mummy. Did you hear that? Thirty! I'm not thirty weeks old yet and my Mummy is thirty years. I guess that's pretty old in the grand scheme of things. Have a nice day, Mum. Another thought... my grandmas and GG must be right off the age scale... how bad is that? |
|
Mummy has sent GG a little video proving that Babba Jai has discovered his voice is not just for yelling - he can sing, gurgle and smile all at the same time - clever boy!
|
There's a bit of a family feud going on about logos on Babba Jai's kit. It's turned into a male v. female thing. The girls don't care for the football outfit and have decided that if the Star Baby has to have writing on his little chest Muggle wins over Gooner. The Mitchell men are avid Arsenal fans and secret Harry Potter followers - divided loyalties.
|
20th September 2016
Jai says... My GG (Great Gran Betty) goes nosing round Facebook. She found this picture of Mummy and me when we were out for a stroll in the sunshine. I'm not sure if we are going to the shops or to Nanny Chanian's round the corner. I wonder if I'm smiling or having my afternoon nap. |
17th September 2016
Jai says... It's a tough old life... so much to worry about... get the finger tips touching and a chap can think... have a good old ponder, put the world to rights and all that. I enjoy a contemplative moment without GG or Nana Carol munching my face, or Mummy leaping about trying to make me smile and busying about in my nappy department. Yawn.... yes... tell them all... hasta manyana... |
1st September 2016
GG says... I heard on the grapevine that Babba Jai went on his first picnic over the bank holiday. He enjoyed the fresh air with Mum, Dad, Uncle Ian and Aunty Jenny. Jai says... The sunshine and fresh air have a chap feeling the need for a little nap, and my posh pram is sooooooooo.... comfy. |
25th August 2016
GG says... Oh dear, little Jai is not very chatty right now so I'm making a few notes for him. He's been having some bad nights so Daddy and Mummy aren't very lively either. On top of his cough and snuffles he has tummy troubles too. His doctor has prescribed a baby dose of Gaviscon. It's probable that the little discomforts that can be attributed to him being in such a hurry to explore the world. He's actually been with us for 15 weeks but medically he's only 2 weeks old. Jai says: (he did manage a little comment after all...) I've grown again and needed more new clothes, what do you think of this big boys' gear - joggers and cosy cardi? |
19th August 2016
Jai says... They tell me the Whats App thing is buzzing this morning after Mummy let everyone know that I've reached 8 lbs. Grandma Carol is all excited because she's coming to babysit tomorrow while my folks go to a party. I'll have to work out a game plan... nudge-nudge, wink-wink... just so Grandma and Grandpa don't get bored you understand. Well, it's what babies do when someone else looks after them, a sort of unspoken code. GG says now that I'm 8 lbs I'm a chunky monkey. When Jon heard the news he began yelling for more photographs - I suppose I'll pose for a few just to keep them all happy. Life gets pretty busy when you're the star of the show. |
17th August 2016
Jai says... Immunisation day again. I'm up for it, it's Mummy who is shaking in her shoes. GG offered to come for moral support but Mummy said she'll be OK and has to get used it. What's that all about? I'm the one having the jabs. Anyway, I've had another present. GG phoned this morning and told Mummy that she's bought my first nursery rhyme book - we're going to read it together. |
5th August 2016
Jai says... I have a nasty cold today, bogies and everything, and a little cough - please everyone leave your germs at home. 4th August 2016 Jai says... My mouth is feeling better now after all the fuss on Monday. You just wouldn't believe what I've found in there - not sure what I'm supposed to do with it though - best let it all hang out. ...And by the way, no I don't have an oversized sticky-out ear, I think it's Grandma's or Mummy's thumb making me look like Star Trek's Doctor Spock. |
Jai says:
A chap needs a siesta when it's soooooooooo hot. Ewan the Sleep Sheep is keeping watch and giving out the "do not disturb" message. |
Whew.... it's getting hotter. Peel off another layer - I'm right down to my undies now.
GG was a bit surprised to find the grown ups at my house are not very good at nursery rhymes (what is the world coming to?)
GG has promised to buy me a nursery rhyme book of my own so we can sing them together. |
Confronting great-grandpa (Pa) for the first time is a bit daunting when you're only an itsy-bitsy little boy and that gruff voice sends you goggle-eyed.
|
It's great-grandma's (GG) turn now - sometimes a little chap gets over-squeezed and munched. Funnily enough GG and Baby Jai are colour co-ordinated today.
Great minds - same wavelength and all that. |
11th July 2016
Another official milestone for Baby Jai - he's tipped the scales at 5 lbs. My tongue-in-cheek comments of yesterday have become reality. What do you think of this picture that landed on my phone just hours ago? The location is the 'bottom' step of Carol and Gary's stairs. Just the place for scattering you know what and giving new meaning to the expression "pampered baby." By the way, be careful if you happen to be hunting for their bathroom, try not to trip over the foothills of Pamper Mountain. However, if you have shares in Boots the Chemist you could be on to a winner. |
10th July 2016
Baby Jai is doing well - no more tubes and monitors - the hospital staff have promised they'll be announcing a coming home date very soon. And there's more... he's outgrown teeny-tiny nappies and is about to move on to the next size. Grandma Carol has dashed off to Boots as they have the 5lb big boy size on special offer. We reckon she'll be building her very own nappy mountain as she can't wait to tend to the little bottom. Andy and Jai - peas and pod come to mind. |
We've had several suggestions for captions to the above photograph...
Carol: "No more publicity please!" Raj: "Hi Family" Great Gran (GG): "Hi Five!" Or maybe it's that modern expression one hears amongst the in-crowd... "talk to the hand." |
Here's Grandad Gary having a moment.
|
I was alarmed when these little feet went on show - how long before Andy has them in football boots? Ian will be waving a tiny Oz Rules footy kit in their direction.
|
1st July 2016
Some more of my crochet goes into service. Cosy grey and white striped blanket on far right which will tone nicely with the nursery at home and double up as a matching item on the new baby buggy. Then near right, we have a warm white overcoat with blue heart-shaped buttons and cosy blue hat to complement the latest design in precious blue dummies. You've modelled them beautifully Jai. |
20th June 2016
Congratulations Baby Jai - he's gained 5 ounces. Yesterday was weigh-day and we have great excitement - phones buzzing with the hot news. He's getting the hang of dummy sucking but Rajni says he sometimes forgets to breathe as well as suck - she says not to worry as they're keeping a careful eye on him. It's a matter of learning to do two things at once and he does still have a feeding tube to contend with. What a star: 3lb 7ozs now - more to munch when we eventually get to meet him. Name tapes are all ready to sew onto his next size clothing. Only Mum Dad and both sets of grandparents have seen him yet - I reckon Andy and Raj will be able to fill his moneybox by selling tickets when the rest of his many relatives are allowed to see him. |
Here's new Grandad Gary enjoying himself with pegs and washing line - they're all so besotted with the new baby they're fighting over who will do his washing.
|
17th June 2016
Everyone is so excited - congratulations Baby Jai. He's put on a little weight and is now 3lb 1oz. Things are going in the right direction, well done tiny boy. Raj sent a text to say he'd had an eye test. I wonder how they test babies' eyes there's no way they can read those little letters like the grown ups do. Doing dummy practise today. |
9th June 2016 Mummy and Daddy Mitchell are still spending many hours at the hospital each day. Little Jai is struggling to gain weight - he's one ounce heavier than the day he was born, 17 days ago. Rajni has sent today's picture to my phone - here it is... He's wearing the tiny jim-jams pictured below and they still look a bit large on him. They measured 10 inches neck to toe and 6-7 inches across. |
7th June 2016
My task this morning was to sew little labels on several sets of little pyjamas. Yes, Jai is wearing proper clothes now, albeit tiny ones - his little jim-jams sent me all silly. 4th June 2016
Rajni's Baby Shower at the Mount Hotel. This family never does anything in the right order - there we were doing baby shower stuff - not sure what onlookers made of us - the person being showered with gifts was no longer a mummy-to-be she was a mummy -who-already-is. Great fun girls and many many thanks to Sonia, Sunita, and Anita and Chan of course. |
Rajni and her mum and sisters Sonia, Sunita and Anita with Sonia's little daughters. |
